The City of Alhaurín el Grande sought a subsidy for European integration and restoration of the historic districts.
This is a budget of six million euros of which the City Council contributes 1.8 million and the rest by ERDF.
The Mayor of Alhaurín el Grande, John Martin, has announced an application for European aid from ERDF for the project "Integrating and urban regeneration of historic districts of Alhaurín el Grande", an ambitious plan that will benefit many streets of the Historic Centre to be modernized, providing them with new steel, paving and infrastructure, with a traditional aesthetic look and integrated into the environment.
These new streets (a plan from New Plaza to Plaza of San Sebastian), San Sebastián, Altillo, Cilla, Rosales, as well as a new road that will connect the Recinto Ferial with the Plaza de Legión (in the area of the existing garages Guardiola of floors), steel Avenue Gerald Brenan (Opposite to Emilia Olivares up to the Library) and Calle Fuengirola.

Total investment exceeds six million euros, of which 70% are from European funds ERDF and the remaining 30% (1.8 million euros) to be provided by the Consistory.
This project has several objectives, including, foster cohesion among the neighbourhoods, improve existing facilities, creating new cultural facilities and services, to enhance the local heritage, The embellishment and the improvement of the image, improving the environment and environmental quality, improving accessibility and mobility and job creation.
With regard to improving the accessibility and mobility, the mayor has outlined the importance of strengthening the connection of Variante Sur with Malaga on Calle Fuengirola, connecting the neighbourhood of Bajondillo with the Centre and the Camino de Málaga and especially the new connection to the Plaza de la Legión with the Exhibition Centre in the area of the existing Bus depots, which supports this whole area. In environmental matters, Juan Martin has stressed the importance that "all new public lighting systems will be installed with low power consumption and low pollution and new containers will be placed."
The edil has also stressed that "these investments will create direct jobs during construction, as well as jobs in the future as new facilities (library, parks and police units) will create new jobs", it is also essential to the social sphere, since the whole project is aimed at social cohesion in neighbourhoods by making the most of the idiosyncrasies of each.
The mayor explained that "this grant, which is very ambitious but we hope to achieve it, joins others already requested for Calle Convento III Tramo (Tourist Infrastructure), Calle Piedras (Plans Provincial Construction and Services) and a stretch of Avenida Gerald Brenan between Calle Cilla and Plaza de la Legión (Urban Commercial).
Finally, the alderman has added that "this grant will be awarded according to investing in a way that we hope to continue with the Comprehensive Plan of Improvement to Districts undertaken by this government team, and we have already materialized in many areas of the town."
