Work to expand College Felix Plaza is underway.
The addition of 8 units for the adaptation of the C-2 center is to be completed for the next academic year 2008-2009.
The structure of the modular expansion of the CEIP Felix Plaza is being finalized and will add eight new units totaling an increase of 1,188 m2 to the building. The budget for this project exceeds one million euros. The new building will have three levels: basement, gymnasium and changing rooms both male and female; ground floor with four classrooms, toilets and terrace, and a first floor with four other classrooms and toilets. This extension has been made possible by the agreement signed in 2003 by the Ministry of Education and the Municipality of Alhaurín el Grande
Councillor for Works, Josefa Brescia, confirms "the work is a 15% development, since the phase structure has not been completed, pending the deck slab. The construction company in charge of work "Juan Espejo SL" is committed to complete the works for next year.
The Councillor for Education Maria Rosa Morales, who visited the works last week along with the Councillor for Works, said "this is a much needed expansion, as the school is saturated and lacks any common areas (e.g. an assembly hall) as these areas have become classrooms. In addition two prefabricated classrooms are being used to help meet demand. This extension to C-2 is now imperative. However, this enlargement will not alleviate the problem of congestion. Therefore, we hope that the Junta de Andalusia will begin the construction, as soon as possible, of the new school, another C-2 center, to be located next to Felix Plaza. This will help to improve educational supply to areas in the municipality that the highest population development, such as carretera de Cártama and Camino de Málaga. The Municipality of Alhaurín el Grande has allocated nearly 8,000 m2 plot for the construction of this new school,."
