The Town hall supports the families through the Team of Familiar Treatment
The recipients are families with minors to its charge and in a situation of social risk.
The Town hall of Alhaurín el Grande, through the Councillorship of Social Well-being and with the Social Community Services, started in the year 2006 the Team of Familiar Treatment, a team integrated by a psychologist, a social worker, an educator and the program coordinator, that realize its work in the Centre of Social Well-being.
The recipients of this program are the families with minors to its charge in a situation of social risk, where there is detected a lack of attention to the minors that it could affect their present or future development. Thus the target of this team is to work with the different families’ problems like school absenteeism, the absence of sanitary control and of habits of healthy life, the loss of familiar organization, the familiar violence and the social alienation.
Councilwoman of Social Well-being, Francisca Bonilla, has said “the team attends so much to families that demand its help directly, as to the families derived from other institutions, an important work exists of coordination with these entities, especially schools and institutes and the Juvenile Prosecutors office, with periodic meetings being established”.
“For every concrete family, the team establishes an individualized treatment which results are visible in the long term, although we are having very good results since we initiated the project in 2006”, informed the team coordinator, Maria Jesús García.
The families receive complementary advice across therapies and individual workshops, relatives or groups to press the relation hard between team and the family, with an exhaustive pursuit, in order to obtain the integral development of the minors.
Amongst the most frequent familiar problems there is the school absenteeism, a matter that needs a specific paragraph where control is taken of the school centres, of the Delegation of Education, the Local Police and the Team of Familiar Treatment. In the beginning of the course, the Councilwoman of Social Well-being has stated in the need to remember that “the schooling of 16-year-old minors is a right of the children but it is the parents who have an obligation to fulfil this right; if not, the Social Services of the Town hall and the, Juvenile Prosecutors office, have the obligation to take administrative measures to fulfil the law”, she also added that “ the participation in the program of familiar treatment is completely voluntary, in no case does it consist of a help of economic type and of course there is guaranteed the confidentiality of the cases that we treat ”.
At present, the Team of Familiar Treatment attends to a score of families, with very satisfactory results, although, according to the town councillor “the most important thing there is the collaboration of the family in the treatment”.
