Alhaurin Bypass Update - Variante Norte de Alhaurin el Grande
A report on the meeting Thursday 12th by the Alhaurin Today premier reporter
The meeting sounded positive, the meeting was called by the Platform to let us know they are still working on our behalf, they meet
either every week or every 2nd week to discuss matters and exchange ideas. The following issues were brought up:-
- The Platform are in touch with the Highway department in Malaga who say that having received such strong opposition to the proposed Bypass that it very unlikely to go ahead, having received over 4,000 allegations.
- The Secretary stated that she has copies of all the allegations should anyone wish to view.
- The Treasurer stated that all payments and invoices have been paid and there is a balance of €271 in the kitty.
- The Platform is a legal body and has its own statutes.
- The Lawyer stated that a final decision has to be made by 21st December 2008.
- It was also mentioned that no news is good news.

We have recieved a copy of the letter sent to Pedro Luis Cebrian Gallardo from the Defensor del Pueblo Andaluz with some very positive news about the bypass.

Pedro Luis Cebrian Gallardo stated in his email:
"I want to send to you the letter that I have received from the Sr.Defensor of the Andalusian town on the definitive suspension of the north varying preliminary design of alhaurin el grande."
The letter has been translated below:
We contact you again to give you an account of the efforts made in processing the file of complaints referenced above.
Following the request made in the report to the Dirección General de Carreteras (Directorate General of Highways), their response, including photocopies is attached (see further response below). The first draft of the Variante Norte de Alhaurin el Grande shows discrepancies and as a direct result of the allegations presented during the period of public information the plan has been suspended.
Consequently, since they appear to be reconsidering the planned route, as claimed, we do not see a need for new efforts by our side on this issue. Once you make another proposal during the corresponding period of public information, we will be able to raise those claims, if any, which we may deem appropriate.
We appreciate your confidence in this institution in considering this matter

"In relation to the file of complaint nº 07/5645 (petition) that was carried out by Don Pedro Luis Cebrián, showing nonconformity with the preliminary design of Variante Norte de Alhaurin el Grande A404 (old A366) I should inform you that the preliminary design made public by means of publication in BOJA 16/11/07 has been has been suspended following the allegations received during this period of public information".
