Alan here from Freezermor, just to let you know that on our way home last night a Spanish Wildcat ran right out in front of us , and scuttled up a tree. It was about 8.15pm, and although it was dark, we had the headlights on full beam.
We stopped and watched it for a few minutes, as it climbed the tree.
We knew it was not a domestic cat, as it had shorter legs, a really bushy ringed tail, so this morning we confirmed the species on the internet.
What we were wondering, is it an endangered species?
The area where it was spotted lies directly in the line of the proposed new road.........
I didn´t have a camera with me, but 3 of us clearly saw it.
It was on the first corner of the campo road with leads into Camino Barrajo, where they have erected a barrier as there is a drop with a small river below.

We have passed this on to the relevant people and hopefully this very helpful information should add to the opposition to the proposed bypass. If anyone else has sitted this wild cat or anything similar please do let us know via email. We have been informed by Jan from Animals in Distress that it is a Iberian Wild Cat. More details to follow.

Having been connected with the theatre in the UK, professional and amateur, we felt one thing lacking here was any live theatre. However, we've just noticed in a magazine called 'Local connections' that there are some plays on in November at Theatre in the Cultural Centre 'Vincente Alejandre' in Alhaurin. Can you tell us if that is the same as Casa de Cultura? And if it isn't where is it? The magazine doesn't give a street name. And do you know, or does anyone know anything about the Municipal Theatre group?

The listing in Local Connections is incorrect.
The Centro Cultural Vicente Alexandre is in Alhaurín de la Torre, not el Grande.
There are lots of theatrical and cultural events at the Casa de la Cultura in el Grande, mainly in Spanish.
There is also a local amateur theatre group called TAPAS whose website can be found at www.tapasociety.info

I continue to enjoy browsing your website and like to feel that I can now keep more up to date with Alhaurin news.

Currently there is a 'rumour' circulating that permission has been granted to develop a Disney World Theme Park in the vicinity of Alhaurin el Grande.  Between us and Cartama it is said.  Do you or any of your readers know anything about this ?   If it is true this will certainly affect we residents of Alhaurin.

We have contacted Disney who gave us a no comment and I asked a spanish friend who said he had heard it wasn't true. If anyone knows any more please let us know. Thanks - The editor

Thanks for the new website.

My friends and I are interested in visiting a farmer's market recently advertised in Coin. We went on 2 occasions to the Plaza de la Via to no avail, so visited the Officina de Tourismo for information. She had heard of it but was vague about the date, but it's apparently monthly. I saw an ad. in Bar Rosa in Alhaurin but it was weeks out of date. No change there then! We're interested in supporting local farmers and buying fresh produce. Any info would be appreciated.
